The Historic district of Niles will welcome an early film icon on June 3rd and 4th through Charlie Chaplin Days. There will be movies shown, a cakewalk booth and various bamboo cane carrying, bowler wearing, mustached figures tramping ’round town. Be on the look out for Charlies roaming the streets and on Sunday, riding the steam train! Come dressed up like him or any movie star or starlet and win a prize! Look for hundreds of Charlies on display all throughout town in different antique stores, businesses and the silent film museum. Posters, pictures, photos, lamps – you name it! Can you count all the Charlies? Come see Charlie Chaplin short films that were actually filmed in Niles in 1915! And joind the Charlie’s for Saturday Night at the Movies as they present The Kid (1921), one of his most famous films! See Jackie Coogan as a most adorable child. See a dog fly through the air. Musical accompaniment will be performed by Greg Pane. Charlie will also start hanging around the train platform Sunday morning at 10:30 to try and catch a free ride on the Sunol-bound train – we shall see if the police can catch up with him! A television production crew from Japan plans on capturing some of the festivities to be shown as part of a documentary they are making by filming various locations all around the world where Chaplin lived and made his films.
